River Ridge Development Authority receives contract to manage Charlestown State Park/River Ridge Commerce Center drinking water system

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. - (June 28, 2011) -The Indiana Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) has selected River Ridge Development Authority (RRDA) to manage and operate the drinking water system at the Charlestown State Park/River Ridge Commerce Center.

River Ridge Commerce Center is the Midwest region’s premier business and industrial park.  River Ridge is located along Indiana State Highway 62 and borders Charlestown State Park in Clark County, Indiana.  The 6,000-acre complex occupies the site of the former Indiana Army Ammunition Plant and sits readily adjacent to the Ports of Indiana, multiple railways, major interstates, regional and international airports, and the UPS Worldport Hub.  The drinking water system includes approximately 12 miles of water main as well as three new supply wells, a two-million-gallon per day treatment plant, booster pump station, and a 750,000 gallon storage tank.

RRDA will manage the system along with two partners, Watson Water Company in Southern Indiana and Louisville Water Company.  Watson Water will assist with meter reading and maintenance of the distribution system.  Louisville Water will operate the treatment plant, oversee water quality compliance, and conduct an initial water system assessment.

“We are thrilled the IDNR has provided us with the opportunity to manage and operate this water system,” said Jerry Acy, executive director of River Ridge Commerce Center.  ”Louisville Water and Watson Water offer a wealth of experience in operating a water utility and will be key partners and guides in assisting us in the process.  Our bottom-line goal is providing high quality drinking water for our customers along with exceptional customer service.”

River Ridge Commerce Center includes 53 industrial and commercial customers.  The park’s average daily water consumption is 68,000 gallons.

The River Ridge Development Authority is holding two customer information meetings today at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the RRDA office, located at 6200 East Highway 62 in building 2501.
