One Southern Indiana recognized as Indiana's 2009 Chamber of the Year
NEW ALBANY, Ind. - (March 16, 2009) – One Southern Indiana has been named the 2009 Chamber of Commerce of the Year by the Indiana Chamber Executives Association (ICEA). The award was presented at the ICEA Conference on March 11 in Indianapolis. The ICEA annually recognizes an Indiana-based chamber of commerce exemplifying excellence in operations, leadership, and member services.
“We are highly honored to be named 2009 Chamber of the Year,” said Michael Dalby, president of One Southern Indiana. “It is because of One Southern Indiana’s exceptional staff and our dedicated, involved members and investors that we are able to accept this important recognition. We share good company with an exceptional host of chamber organizations throughout the state.”
Since its creation in July 2006, One Southern Indiana’s economic development efforts have resulted in the creation of more than 4,670 net new jobs in Clark and Floyd Counties. To date, forty companies have chosen to expand or locate their facilities here, which combined have contributed more than $186 million in new initial capital, and $162.5 million in new annual payroll to Southern Indiana.
One Southern Indiana has also experienced a 55% membership increase in fiscal year 2007-2008 to include more than 1,300 businesses. In addition to business growth and retention, One Southern Indiana’s government affairs council advocates on behalf of business on local, state, and federal issues affecting the area’s economy. The organization also maintains an exceptional following for its member programs including Network of Champions, Certification Connection, and the Broadband Forum reaching a total of 4,997 business professionals.
According to Christy Gillenwater, ICEA Conference Vice-Chair and President of the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce, “This relatively new metro organization continues to be a leader in the state for business development.”
The ICEA launched the Chamber of Commerce Award program in 2002. Previous recipients include: Fishers Chamber, Greater Fort Wayne Chamber, Angola Area Chamber, Greater Valparaiso Chamber, Terre Haute Chamber, Chamber of Commerce of Southwest Indiana, and the Columbus Area Chamber.
