Landis Homes completes Louisville area’s first home certified by NAHB National Green Building Program

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – (February 5, 2009) – Landis Homes has completed the Louisville area’s first home certified by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Green Home Building Certification Program.  The Certification assures homeowners that residential construction projects meet the NAHB Model Green Home Building Guidelines.  Independent verifiers have inspected the new home to confirm its energy efficiency, water and resource conservation, use of sustainable and recycled products, and indoor air quality.

The home is a unique ranch layout on a .54 acre wooded walkout lot on a quiet cul-de-sac in Oldham County’s Briar Hill Estates.  The home contains 3,020 square feet plus an additional 2,260 square feet in a lower level.  This green home is also Energy Star certified at 5+ stars and is rated to consume less than half the energy it would take to heat and cool a typical home of the same size.

The NAHB’s Green Building Guidelines incorporate environmental considerations in each phase of the home building process.  The guiding principles of this program are organized into seven major categories: 1) Lot Design, Preparation and Development, 2) Resource Efficiency, 3) Energy Efficiency, including Energy Star Certification, 4) Water Efficiency, 5) Indoor Environmental Quality, 6) Operation, Maintenance, and Homeowner Education, and 7) Global Impact.  According to the NAHB, only about 120 homes nationwide have been certified to meet their strict Green Building Guidelines.

David Landis, owner and founder of Landis Homes, is also one of a select group of professional builders, remodelers, and other industry professionals nationwide who have earned the Certified Green Professional (CGP) designation from the NAHB.  The CGP designation identifies Landis as someone with knowledge of the best strategies for incorporating green building principles into homes.  The CGP program is administered by the NAHB University of Housing.

The CGP curriculum incorporates a variety of information tailored to green building and business practices.  The designation requires NAHB-approved training and additional continuing education every two years.   It includes training by leading building industry practitioners and academics on a range of topics including improved indoor air quality, strategies for incorporating green-building principles using cost-effective methods of construction, and how green homes provide buyers with lowered maintenance and energy costs.

“Today’s homebuyers are very informed and know what they want in terms of environmentally-friendly construction.  We’re very proud to offer more energy efficient and comfortable homes for our clients,” said Landis.  “We are committed to offering the best in green building practices and really enjoy guiding clients through the entire design and construction process.”
